Knoydart

Living in Mallaig, Knoydart is like my very big back yard! If you're looking for a guide that knows the Knoydart mountains, you're in the right place.
On the way up Sgùrr Coire Choinnichean, overlooking Inverie Bay
The hills and mountains of Knoydart have some of the most spectacular views in Scotland, with the islands in the West, sea lochs and mountains all around.

Choose your adventure

If you want long walks, big mountains or an expedition in wild country, Knoydart is a great place for you. There are some smaller walks to enjoy in Knoydart too, get in touch to discuss your adventure.

Inverie Munros

There are 3 Munros accessible from Inverie; Ladhar Bheinn, Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn. There are a number of ways to climb them, see below. I recommend staying in Inverie for the night after a Munro walk, as you don't want to miss the last ferry back to Mallaig... this also gives you time to celebrate with a drink or more in The Old Forge.
Munros
Munros are the Mountains in Scotland over 3,000ft

Inverie Munro Guiding Fees

Ladhar Bheinn £300 (8-12 hours)

Meal Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn circular £300 (11 to 14 hours)

All 3 Inverie Munros in a day £460 (for athletic hillwalkers only)

Inverie Three Package
2 days guiding over a period of 3 days: £550
A great option if wanting to bag the 3 Inverie Munros with the flexibility of choosing the best weather and option of a rest day in between the 2 big mountain days.

Expeditions into Knoydart

An expedition into Knoydart is the most satisfying way of getting a feel for the scale and remoteness of the peninsula. You are guaranteed lots of water features, dramatic views and to be well looked after by your guide.

Expedition options

Glenfinnan to Inverie: The classic route starting from the world famous viaduct, normally 3 days

Loch Arkaig to Inverie: Normally a 2 day route starting with a 1 hour winding taxi journey from Fort William along Loch Arkaig to the trail head

Kinloch Hourn to Inverie: The easiest walk, and a good choice if you're worried about the length and altitude gain of the other routes, but the other 2 are significantly more scenic!

Climbing Ladhar Bheinn from Barrisdale on a winter expedition

Ladhar Bheinn

Ladhar Bheinn is the most popular and the highest of the Inverie three. It has a stunning ridge line summit with sudden views of Loch Hourn, mountains and Islands all around. The length and remoteness of the walk is often underestimated.

Ladhar Bheinn Routes

Straight up and down

Ladhar Bheinn Ridge Traverse

Ladhar Bheinn Horseshoe - A classic but very long day

Ladhar Bheinn Expedition - with or without the other Munros

Ladhar Bheinn from Barrisdale - requires private boat drop off
Scaling the Ladhar Bheinn Horseshoe

Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn

On a traverse of Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn you will discover amazing geology in the rock formations that the area is famous for. Your boots and gaiters will be glittering with fragments from the mica rich schists, that are in abundance in this part of the peninsula.

Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn Routes

Circular from Inverie - a long day, but managed by most Munro baggers

One at a time - this cuts out the undulating section between the 2 Munros for those that can't manage the lengthy hill day

As an expedition - with or without Ladhar Bheinn

From Barrisdale - requires private boat drop off
Geology really does rock between Meall Buidhe and Luinne Bheinn

Further Walks from Inverie

The following walks are possible in a day trip from Mallaig

Corbetts
Corbetts are Mountains in Scotland between 2,500 and 3,000ft

Sgùrr Coire Choinnichean
£180
The peak that towers directly over Inverie offers a spectacular, short but steep day out.

It is a Corbett;.

Beinn na Caillich or Beinn Buidhe
Remote Corbetts, you will likely not see anyone else on these hills.
These walks are almost as long as the Munro walks, I recommend spending a night in Inverie unless you are speedy.
£240

A Wild Walk to the World War II Mica Mine
As far as I know, I'm the only person that knows the way!
£200
En-route to the mica mine

Sgurr na Ciche

An iconic mountain among mountains!

When viewed from Loch Nevis, Sgurr na Ciche is an almost perfect pyramid. However, it is much easier than the Matterhorn - I can vouch for that!

Garbh Chioch Mhor is a close neighbour to Sgurr na Ciche, and people trying to climb all of the Munros will normally aim to climb both of these on the same day. The Munro of Sgurr nan Coireachan is further along this ridge and is possible to add on for the fittest of hill walkers.

Options for the Sgurr na Ciche ridge Munros

These Munros are most easily accessed from Loch Arkaig - a 1 hour drive from Fort William.

Sgurr na Ciche can also be accessed:
- with a privately arranged boat drop off at Camusrory
- on an expedition from Inverie

Sgurr na Ciche area guiding fee: £300 per day

Please get in contact to discuss logistics to access Sgurr na Ciche.
